A Little Bit More About Ronald Reagan

President from 1981-1989, Ronald Reagan was known as a conservative, and an opponent of Soviet communism. Reagan began his career as a sports announcer on a radio, then moved to Hollywood and became a movie star. Reagan made over fifty movies, served as the governor of California (1967- 1975) and then in 1980 defeated Democrat Jimmy Carter to become the 40th U.S president. He supported tax cuts as part of his economic policy. He also wanted higher defense spending to protect the U.S from perceived Soviet aggression. In 1994 Reagan announced that he suffered from Alzheimer's Disease. He spent the next ten years out of the public eye, until his death in 2004.

I was shot !!!!

My assassination attempt occurred March 30, 1981, just 69 days into my presidency. While leaving the speaking engagement at the Washington's Hilton Hotel in Washington D,C. I and three others were shot and wounded by John Hincley Jr. I suffered a punctured lung, but the prompt medical attention allowed myself to recover quickly despite my age. Hincley was found not guilt by reason of insanity and has remained confined to a psychiatric facility.

Tearing Wown Of The Berlin Wall - Google Video

tearing down of the berlin wall - Google Video

Berlin Wall

In 1987, the Berlin Wall was torn down. Prompted by my speech that I made to the world. For 25 years this wall divided West, Berlin from the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). This was a strong symbol of the Soviet aggression present at the time in Russia. It was confirmed as least 135 people were killed trying to cross the wall into West Berlin. In 1987 I gave a speech to the world, telling Mikhail Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall. Mikhail Gorbachev was the president of the Soviet Union during the 1980's. When millions of people heard this faithful speech, they believed with such power that the Berlin Wall was coming down. They took power and in throughout all of the east, the wall started to fall. Millions of people took action and by 1989 the wall was nothing but a pile of dust and broken rock. This was one of the leading factors to the decline of Soviet communism.

The Stock Market Crash

As president I was able to overcome a major disaster that happened during my presidency. The major disaster that happened during my Presidency was the Stock Market Crash. This happened in 1987, on October 19. The stock market was the worst price collapse since 1929, dropping huge value in a short period. The crash ended in Hong Kong spread west through international time zones, and hit the United States after other markets had already declined by a significant margin. Many blame the computerized trading the cause of this sudden drop in stocks. Some say that Derivates Securities triggered this crash as well. By the end of the year the stock market was higher than were it had been before the beginning of the year.
